Presentation Skills

Presentation Skills Learning Track

The Presentation Skills Learning Track is a five-course series on how to increase your effectiveness as a presenter.

Learning Track Outline: Course 1: Powerful Presentations

For many people, the thought of giving a presentation is unnerving. However, public speaking is a skill that we all need. We speak in public, and present ourselves and our organizations, all the time. During this course, we will explore the various forms of presentations, and determine what great public speaking looks like.

Course 2: Doing Your Prep Work

Before you begin developing the content of your presentation there are some questions that need to be answered: What’s your objective? Who’s your audience? What do they want to hear? And when and where will you be presenting? During this course, we will look at all the information gathering that needs to happen before you even begin to think about what you’re going to say.

Course 3: Developing Your Message

Effective presenters do not rely on luck to develop their presentations. They use a proven technique and process to ensure their success. During this course, we will outline a sequence of steps for delivering a strong presentation, and explore a dramatically different sequence of steps for preparing that presentation.

Course 4: Building Visual Aids

Once you have developed your presentation, it is time to enhance it with visual aids. Effective visual aids can provide interest, emphasize a point, and increase retention. During this course, we will review the variety of visual aids available and discuss how to select the ones that will best suit your presentation.

Course 5: Presenting Yourself

Up to this point you have identified your objective; assessed your audience; developed your presentation; and enhanced it with visual aids. The next and final step is to work on your delivery. During this course, we will look at techniques for preparing yourself to present. And, we will discuss the skills that will make you an effective presenter.
