Communication Skills

Communication Skills Learning Track

The Communication Skills Learning Track is a five-course series on how to increase your effectiveness as a communicator.

Learning Track Outline: Course 1: Connecting through Communication

During this interactive course, we will define the term “communication”, outline the different levels of communication, and explore the best channels of communication to use, depending on the message.

Course 2: You as a Communicator

This course is about you—and how your thoughts, beliefs, feelings and perceptions contribute to the way you communicate. During this course, we‘ll investigate the effect our thoughts and beliefs have on how we communicate, and discuss the powerful impact of nonverbal communication.

Course 3: Conversation Starters

“Conversation starters” are the casual conversations that begin almost every communication. They play an important role because they create an impression and open the way to build rapport and develop relationships. In this course, we’ll explore ways you can initiate a conversation and keep it rolling.

Course 4: Conducting Meaningful Conversations

Meaningful conversations are more important in business today than ever before. Due to the increased complexity of today’s business environment, no single individual has all of the information needed to solve problems or make decisions. During this course, we’ll explore what makes a conversation meaningful, and introduce the tools and techniques for conducting meaningful conversations.

Course 5: Tackling Tough Conversations

Right now there’s probably someone you should speak to about an important issue. Maybe you're avoiding the conversation, or have tried once without success and are reluctant to try again. Silence may be the path of least resistance, but these unresolved issues don’t simply go away. Instead they smolder and often intensify. During this course, we’ll explore how to prepare for tough conversations, and we’ll investigate skills to deal with the emotions that arise during tough conversations.
